Founder & Executive Director

Adith Srinivasan

Adith Srinivasan is an undergraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, pursuing a Master’s of Arts in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE). Originally hailing from the United States, Adith served as a Youth Ambassador to Germany for the U.S. Department of State in 2019-2020, as a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) Study Abroad Scholarship. In addition to serving in executive positions on various student organisations and think tanks, Adith has written on a wide range of subjects, including global health, economic development, the politics of time, and international security. As one of the founders of FGHR, Adith strongly believes that human rights is a necessarily collaborative and interdisciplinary space, within which the voice, potential, and impact of youth simply cannot be underestimated.

Founder & Executive Director

Jonathan McCartney

Jonathan McCartney is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh Law School, holding an LLB Law (Honours) Degree. Originally from Loch Lomond, Scotland, Jonathan volunteered with the Free Legal Advice Centre as a student advisor, before going on to act as the Edinburgh Student Ambassador for both the Scottish University Law Clinic Network and ProBonoSkills.com. Partly inspired by the incredible people in the University’s Pro Bono and Clinical Legal Education Department, Jonathan founded FGHR to improve Access to Justice and student engagement. By giving young people a platform to engage with real world issues important to them, connect with NGOs and learn practical skills Jonathan hopes that FGHR will inspire more future leaders and help address the Access to Justice gap wordwide.

Communications & Marketing Director

Nina Butslova

Nina Butslova is originally from Russia and has recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh, completing her degree in History and Spanish. At the University of Edinburgh, she specialised in the topics of Latin American human rights, with particular focus on Cuba and Argentina. She is also interested in the topic of genocide, specifically researching the Guatemalan genocide and that of the indigenous people in Brazil. She is about to embark on a masters degree in Latin American Studies in the University of Oxford where she will focus on Latin American human rights and development. Having researched human rights issues extensively and with the urgency for action really emerging with the current devastating events in Ukraine and the growing human rights crises in Russia, Nina is a passionate advocate for change. She speaks Russian, Spanish and French and aspires for a career in journalism or documentary film making.

    Vanessa Lee

    Vanessa Lee is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh Law School, holding an LLB Law (Honours) Degree. She is from Toronto, Canada and will be working in Investment Banking after graduating. In addition to founding two startups throughout university she has also been awarded the 2021 Undergraduate of the Year Award for Sustainable Thinking. With these experiences she has been president/ chairperson of four societies on campus and hopes to continue providing students with opportunities through the Forum for Global Human Rights. After volunteering at a Kenyan orphanage in 2016 and 2017, Vanessa hopes to raise awareness for Children’s Rights in Kenya and aims to utilize FGHR as a platform to inspire a generation of young leaders.

      Jessica Motley

      Jessica Motley is a 4th Year Law with Honours student at the University of Edinburgh where she is specialising her degree to focus on human rights, immigration and punishment. Through her roles as Co-President for Women in Law, a previous director for BlackED Movement, and a member of the Edinburgh Divison of Lawyers Without Borders, Jessica has only furthered her passion for human rights and advocating for minority voices.  She looks forward to applying her passion in the future as she continues with her further education and research in the field of human rights.
