The Forum for Global Human Rights (FGHR) is delighted to invite you to our publication launch and panel event, “Exploring Opportunities for Youth Activism in Economic Justice,” which will take place on Thursday, 01 December 2022, in-person at the University of Edinburgh. FGHR has organised a panel of experts on economic justice, including professors, practitioners to officials from high-impact NGOs, to discuss the intersection between economics and human rights issues and explore opportunities for youth activism in the space of economic justice. We are honoured to be joined by Dr. Andrew Clausen (University of Edinburgh, School of Economics), Satwat Rehman (One Parent Families Scotland) and Frances Guy (International Development Alliance Scotland). This panel event is sure to be an exciting opportunity for students interested in applying their economics education to address real-world human rights issues, such as poverty, inequality, and lack of access to justice. The panel event will then be followed by the launch of FGHR and Insight’s joint publication on the theme of Economic Justice. Over the last few months, FGHR has been hard at work with Insight Magazine, the University of Edinburgh School of Economics’ student-led publication, to produce a joint issue exploring the theme of economic justice for the Autumn term of the 2022/23 Academic Year. The goal of this publication has been to create a platform for students of economics to explore and apply their economics education to real-world human rights issues and conduct a deep dive into the intersection of economics and human rights. This event is the culmination of months of hard work by the FGHR and Insight teams to put together this issue, which spans Insight’s traditional student-written articles which allow students to explore the issue theme in topics of their choosing to FGHR’s unique contribution: case studies of high-impact economic justice NGOs written by students and informed by one-to-one interviews between the writers and officials from the NGOs organised by FGHR.
